Nine on the Ninth – Top 9 Horror Comedy Sequels

I had originally planned to write this article for December, before the Blood Rage that was the American Psycho Remake.

Time has eased my rage, and that movie has thankfully been shelved and we’re in a new year so let’s go…

I am a child of movies, but my taste in movies has always been a little off. I like Temple of Doom more than Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Highlander II is one of my favorite movies of all time…

…and on more than one occasion it has been brought to my attention that I have a nearly unhealthy affection for quote/unquote“Bad Sequels.”

But, truthfully I don’t see it like that, I think that, although flawed in some ways, the Campy/Comedy Sequel has value, hell it must since there is a whole sub-genre of horror devoted to them.

This is my Top Nine Horror Comedy Sequels, they’re not always better than the originals… but they are still worth watching…

Nine on the Ninth – 2011 Best, Worst and Everything Else

I know this is late, but I hope this is also meatier than my normal Nine on the Ninth.

For this, the fist 9ot9th for 2012 I thought I’d do a Top Nine List, well actually Nine Top Nine List and in audio.

This is a bit of an experiment for me, and I think I may have rambled a little bit in some places, but give it a listen and please let me know what you think… Continue reading Nine on the Ninth – 2011 Best, Worst and Everything Else

Nine on the Ninth – Red Lanterns RAGE: American Psycho…

For this month’s Nine on the Ninth I had originally planned to run a list of Horror Movie sequels, really cheesy but fun movies that I could recommend to everyone, but then I saw this:

Lionsgate Plots Microbudget Remake Of ‘American Psycho’

Now, right off the bat, I can see two glaring errors in that statement, and anyone who followed my twitter feed from yesterday would have gotten an earful…

American Psycho, is nigh on one of my favorite movies of all time, ranking up there with Arsenic and Old Lace, Buckaroo Banzai and La Cité des Enfants Perdus. It’s my favorite Christian Bale movie, and I’m a dyed in the wool Batman fan…

I’ve seen it more than 30 times and have never seen the ‘R’ rated version. I can tell you where you are in the movie from a snippet of dialogue, I know the differences between the business cards…

I really do love this movie. It doesn’t need to be remade!

And here’s why…

Nine on the Ninth – November Birthday Marathon 2011

In my family we take birthdays very seriously. It is the one day out of the year that someone can do exactly what they want to do.

For me tha means staying home, popping the top off a few dozen Dublins and watching movies. Each year I select a few movies, mostly at random to watch from the moment I get up until I pass out at night.

No work and almost eighteen hours, this year I selected Nine movies…

Nine on the Ninth – Nine(ish) Best Halloween Movies to Watch in October

Halloween is a very special time of year for kids. It’s the one time a year that kids can dress up and go ask strangers for candy…

…wait, what?

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of, taking candy from strangers… it’s a far better idea to stay home and watch scary movie while carving jack-o-lanterns. Presented for your perusal…

Nine on the Ninth – Deep Space Nine

I have a confession to make: I love Deep Space Nine.

I don’t know what I was doing when I first saw Man Trap or Encounter at Farpoint or Wrath of Khan, but I can tell you exactly what I was doing when I saw Emissary. I was 12 years old sitting in my room huddled with my sisters and my Dad around a 13″ B&W tv, the only one we had that had an antenna.

Why did we need an antenna? Because the only station that was broadcasting Deep Space Nine on that January night was in Dallas, and it was a hell of a chore to line up those rabbit ears. Luckily the local CBS affiliate picked it up the next week so I got to see the Wormhole open up in all it’s glory.

From that point on, for seven years, every Saturday night at 10:35 I was hooked.

More than TOS, more than Next Generations, DS9 is Star Trek in my eyes. If has everything that I love about Science Fiction: Aliens, Social Allegory, Space Battles, Random Technobable (admittedly less so than in TNG)… and eventually I will go into great detail about Deep Space Nine, but today I’ll just go into the Nine best story arcs, in my oppinion, of the whole seven season run:

The Ferengi The Bajoran Civil War The Changelings
The Pah Wraith Martok Nog
The Emissary Section 31 The Mirror Universe
