Music is supposed to have an impact and depending on the mood I’m in different songs affect me differently so there really isn’t one song…

…also this is an alphabetical list from my iTunes library so there are more songs that I have probably missed, I will amend as I can…

Hard To Say I’m Sorry/Get Away – Chicago

My love of music is drawn from many sources: my parents, my sisters and occasionally high school. If you can’t tell from some of the other music on this list and from my interests in general, I am a bit of a dork. I’m actually very at ease with that, but it also means that I was never very athletic.

And where do the nonathletic kids go in HS? The Band, and more precisely in the case of this song, The Marching Band. I was a brass player and tended toward the lower instruments. I can play the trumpet, but not well.

What does this rambling have to do with Hard To Say I’m Sorry/Get Away? When I was in my junior year our band performed a routine based on Chicago’s music, and this is one of the songs we performed. I really only like Get Away, and for this of you that have heard you should be able to tell why. I am convinced that Hard To Say I’m Sorry is the price brass player have to pay to get to play Get Away…

Hazy Shade Of Winter – Bangles

This is an old favorite of mine, and yes I am aware that this is a cover of a Simon & Garfunkel song. I think the harmonies of the Bangles and the electric rock of their version better suit this song, this is definitely a caver that is better than the original.

He’s No Good for You – New Blood Revival

This is another fun song, and also the first I was not able to find a youtube video for… I can find a video of a turtle biting a dog’s nut, but not this song. Luckily you can buy the mp3 from iTunes or on Amazon.

Heaven – DJ Sammy

This is a strange one for me, I can’t really explain why I like this song, I don’t like a lot of Bryan Adams or dance music, but this is just a fun cover. I’m convinced that Bryan Adams did not own a metronome, because all of his songs are written too slow. This version is sped up and really makes the song pop, and that may be what I like about it…

Here Comes The Sun – George Harrison

This is one of the best Beatles songs ever written, and you can hear the influence of Buddy Holly in the guitar and the lyrics…

High School Never Ends – Bowling for Soup

A very fun song from our old favorites Bowling For Soup, and a very accurate representation on life… *sigh*

Hold Tight! – Beaky, Dave Dee, Dozy, Mick & Tich

I will admit the fist place I heard this song was in Death Proof, but i have since heard the song a thousand times and to date I’ve only seen Death Proof twice…

The Horse (Stereo) – Cliff Nobles

This is my father’s favorite song… ever. I have seen him rewind tapes and records to listen to this two or three times in a row. It’s the ring tone on his phone. I had the honor of playing this in high school for him.

Hurt – Johnny Cash

This is another cover that is far better than the original. I believe the Trent Reznor really had these emotions in him when he wrote the song, but Johnny Cash’s version is so much more powerful because of the weight his age and experience puts behind it.

Also, this has a better arrangement with the acoustic guitar and the piano…

I’m A Believer – The Monkees

I just love the Monkeees…

(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles – The Proclaimers

Just try and not sing along to this song, I dare you. I triple dog dare you!

…and as a bonus, Comic Relief. And, yes that is David Tennant in a quilt.

I Will Survive – Cake

This is actually a cover of a cover, Gloria Gaynor was not the first to record this song, but I think Cake really nails the mood…

Illusion – Seikou Nagaoka

I may be the only person left alive that has ever heard of El Hazard (please prove me wrong) and by extension this song. There are actually two versions, English and Japanese, and both are pretty good. I have included the Japanese video just because it starts a little faster…

Jar of Hearts – Christina Perri

This is another one that I can’t really explain… I will stop and listen to this song whenever it comes on the radio, I think it’s the combination of the vocals and the piano…

Just Say When – Kate Micucci

Recently Film Brain kind of made fun of Kate in his review of When in Rome, and I have to admit: I don’t really know her from her acting, but more from her songs. This is one of her more “Alternative” songs… still, I could listen to this on a loop for days…

Killer Klowns – The Dickies

If you haven’t seen Killer Klowns from Outspace, what is wrong with you? That’s like saying you’ve not seen Attack of the Killer Tomatoes…

Anyway, this song is also my ring tone…

Li’l Red Riding Hood – Bowling for Soup

This is a cover that Bowling for Soup did for the movie Cursed, and honestly this is probably the best thing that came out of that movie…

Life is Like a Boat – Rie fu

This beautiful song was used as the closing theme for the first series of Bleech. And, it’s really obvious why.

Little Lion Man – Mumford & Sons

Here is another Mumford & Sons song on the list, they are just consistently good every time they release a single…

Logos Naki World – Hellsing

The best thing Amine every did was realize that Japanese fits in pretty well with scatty jazz…

Loosey – Burst Angel

As above this is really good mix of English, Japanese and jazz. It’s fast, chaotic and a blast to listen too, plus the show is full of fan service, which doesn’t hurt…

Love Rollercoaster – Red Hot Chili Peppers

Like Heaven above this is a cover that is much faster than the original. In this case the RHCP boosted the funk beat and autotuned the vocals to create a truly strange rendition that is so much more fun to listen to than the original…

Lust for Life – Iggy Pop

Do I even need a reason???

Mad World – Gary Jules

I will admit, I was introduced to this song by the Gears of War commercial, still better than from Donnie Darko (fucking stupid movie…)

Mahna Mahna – Piero Umiliani

This on is like Bohemian Rhapsody, I like all versions of this song, classic is included for fun…

Star Trek: First Contact, Main Title / Locutus – Jerry Goldsmith

Star Trek: First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie, full stop, and this theme has a lot to do with it…

Make Me Smile – Chicago

Probably the last from Chicago, this song was the first song we listened to n the Band Hall while we prepared for the new marching season. It has a good brass opening, really wakes you up in the morning…

March (From “1941”) – John Williams

Strangely I never played this on a marching field, only ever in a concert hall…

Master of Puppets – Van Canto

This is really the list of covers, Van Canto is an a cappella metal band from Germany, composed of five singers and a drummer, yes this is a Metallica cover with out a guitar part…

…oh and Metallica sucks!

Morning Has Broken – Ellen Greene

If you haven’t seen Pushing Daisies, please do so now, it was probably one of the most actualized shows that has ever been broadcast, it perfectly created its own universe…

My-pace Daiou – Manzo

I don’t watch a lot of Anime, contrary to what this list may imply, but I this was one of the first that really convinced me to go out and buy the Manga. The version I have embeded is opening for Genshiken, but a longer version is available online…

National Anthem of Macross – Yoko Kanno

Like the other instrumentals on this list, I heard this song while watching a movie, in this case Macross Plus, the song is a beautiful…

… well that’s H – N, a little more than half way…
